Just For Fun Rubber Stamps May Challenge

When you are home, recovering from surgery, it is hard to keep track of the days. Surprise!! May is here.  So it is time for a new challenge at the Just For Fun Blog.  It is the perfect theme for May – Celebrating The Women In Our Lives.

My mom has been in the hospital and struggling with some major health issues.  The good news is she is on the mend, but she has definitely been on my mind so I made a card for her.  The base image on this card is the Floral Wreath from Just for Fun.  It was colored with Tombow Markers and then 5 cm letters were used to cut out the word MOM.

Head on over to the JFF Blog for all the challenge details and more designer inspiration.  We would love for you to join us and see what you create.

Here is to time with mom.

A Mother Is Born

Yesterday was Mother’s Day so I thought I would share the card I made.  One of my favorite flowers is the Peony and so I used this flower for my card.

The Peony was stamped with Picked Raspberry Distress Ink.  A waterbrush was used to pick up ink directly from the stamp pad and color the image.

For the sentiment, the Just For Fun Peony image was once again inked with Picked Raspberry, stamped on a scrap of paper, and then stamped a second time on white cardstock.  The wording from the JFF Mother is Born stamp was stamped in black on top and die cut with a Spellbinders’ Square Nestability.  Don't you love this sentiment!  I had planned on layering the sentiment in the middle of the flower, lining up the stamped image, but decided not to cover the flower after I colored it.

The card background was created by scoring both vertically and horizontally in the middle of a piece of white cards stock.  The Peony image was stamped with Picked Raspberry in each corner.  This was layered on a coordinating cardstock, along with the Peony and the sentiment, and all added to the white card base.

Thanks for visiting,

Simple Mother's Day

Saturday was National Scrapbooking Day.  I am not a scrapbooker, yet, so I spent the day with my friends making cards.  I thought I would share two different versions of my Mother’s Day card.

The Just For Fun image, Floral Oval V, is stamped with Abandoned Coral Distress Ink on this simple card.  Spellbinders Oval dies were used to create a frame to layer on top.  This was layered on white cardstock, edged with the same ink. and added to the white card base.

The JFF Happy Mother’s Day sentiment was also stamped with Abandoned Coral ink on a rectangle, edged with the ink.  This was angled on the side of the image.

Since I have a hard time keeping things simple, I decided to create a second version with a few additions.  This time the die cut frame was edged with ink and the top layer was run through a floral embossing folder.  A corner rounder was used on the sentiment and a sheer ribbon bow and pearl were added.  The ribbon for the bow was originally white but the Abandoned Coral Distress Ink was added to it.  This ink is interesting as it gave the actual ribbon a slight orange look but kept the Coral color along the edges.  I felt these few changes added an elegance to the card while still keeping the simplicity.

You can share your Mother’s Day cards by linking them to JFF's May Card Challenge with the theme of A Mother's Love.

Mother

The May monthly challenge at Just For Fun Rubber Stamps Blog started yesterday with the theme of “Let’s Hear It For The Girls!”  What is more girly than a Mother’s Day card.  I am sharing what I chose for my mother.

I created the background by coloring the Gathering Pollen floral image from JFF with Tombow Markers and stamping it several times.  Then I used a Dove Blender to spread some of the color.  This didn’t blur the stamped image but gave the flower and bee soft color.

Just for Fun Stamps has this wonderful sentiment, Mother, that is perfect.  I colored it with the same Tombow marker so it would match the background I created.  I didn’t have cardstock that was quite the right color for the layer so I just ran my marker along the edge of a piece of white cardstock.  My photo couldn’t quite catch the actual color, which was a little more peachy orange. This was layered on brown cut with Spellbinders' Long Rectangle Die.

I know my mom will love this.  It is not too late to remember your mom with a homemade card.
