You Are Not Forgotten

I had planned to post this yesterday for the 4th of July, but it just didn’t work out.  Not really a big deal since this was actually made for my dad.  I had the opportunity to visit with him recently and I know he is having a real hard time adjusting to being in a care facility instead of home with mom.  He has always had a very strong faith but, with all the changes, his dementia has caused him to have more fear of death (more about leaving my mom) and being forgotten.  I thought I would have my sister put this on an easel next to his bed to remind him that the Lord is with him and he will not be forgotten.

The background behind the sentiment is created with Color Bursts.  I had created a different background and when I moved it over to let dry, there was all this nice color on my mat.  I grabbed another piece of white cardstock and picked up the color.  I added just a little more and it came out like this.  Then I stamped Our Daily Bread DesignsOld Flag Background top of it.  Then I distressed the edges and added it to the different layers.  The blue layer with stars was created by inking my embossing folder and running white cardstock through.  Both sentiments are from ODBD’s Not Forgotten stamp set.

I added a few stitch marks with a white pen and added a few jewel swirls that reminded me of fireworks.

Have a great week!

E. Marie

Encouragment for Dad

I have previously mentioned that my parents are going through some health problems due to their age.  At this time my father needs more assistance than my mother can provide so it has become necessary to place him in assisted living.  He is not totally thrilled with this but my sisters have made a great effort to transport mom to and from the facility to spend time with him almost every day.

I plan to visit them soon and wanted to make a card for Dad that would be comforting and remind him that the Lord is in control of what is happening.  I just received the Our Daily Bread Designs’ Fishing Boat and Fishing stamp sets and thought these would be perfect for him.   I stamped the boat image over a background I created using my new Color Bursts and layered it behind a window die.

I inked the sentiment. from the Fishing set, with two different Distress Inks, using a darker blue on the outer edges, and stamped it on a lighter section of the designer paper, then layered this on yellow cardstock.

If you have had a chance to play with the Color Bursts, they are very vivid colors.  I used a wipe to clean up and it had such lovely color on it that I used it to create the border across the card front, along with Spellbinders’ Scalloped Borders One, and also used it for the layer behind the designer paper.

I can’t wait to see my parents and I hope this card will be an encouragement to dad.

Believe

I am enjoying a weekend at the home of one of my best friends.  It is like a little retreat from my life and I am feeling so relaxed and at peace.  We love to stamp together so I hauled a trunkful of “necessary” items from my craft room to her house.  I really don’t know why, since her craft room is as full as mine.

We spent the evening creating cards and I spent most of mine working on this card.  It features images from Our Daily Bread Designs’ Birds and Butterfly Labels set and Faith set.

Both images were stamped with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink and die cut with Spellbinders’ Labels 18 and Labels 22.  These are layered on top of die cuts using Sue Wilson’s Union Square Dies from her New York Collection.
I hope you have had a wonderful weekend and are refreshed and ready for your upcoming week.

Lifting You Up In Prayer

I recently went through a very scary time when I thought I was going to lose my mother.  She was rushed to the hospital because of a problem with her heart.  I live about 1,000 miles away from my family and so I spent several hours trying to decide if I should be hopping a plane or not.  My sister told me to wait and promised she would let me know if I needed to come so I waited and prayed.  She ended up needing a pacemaker and I was able to spend a few minutes talking to her before her surgery.  She is doing great now but I do plan a trip home soon.  I also have had many friends going through similar things and decided to make some more cards to have on hand for times like this.

This card features a variety of older stamps from Our Daily Bread Designs.  The background uses one of their lacy background stamps, Crocheted Background, embossed with Sparkle N Sprinkle’s Belgian Cream embossing powder on craft cardstock.  This is added to layers of dark brown and light blue.

The sentiment and frame is an older mini sentiments set, embossed with Sparkle N Sprinkle’s Brown Fizz embossing powder.  I popped it up on a decorative die cut, cut from the light blue cardstock with Sue Wilson Designs' Beverly Hills die from her Californian Collection.  This was popped up on the card front.

I used ODBD’s Crocheted Border along the bottom.  I embossed it with Brown Fizz on the light blue cardstock and fussy cut it.

I did the same with the butterfly from ODBD’s Butterfly Corner.

I really love the softness of this card.

Have a blessed Easter.
