All You Need Is Love

Now that I have a new laptop (Merry Christmas to me) I have spent a bit more time browsing and getting ideas.  I just found a wonderful blog called KT Hom Designs .  She had a great tutorial on ribbon weaving with a video tutorial here.  Her cards were so pretty that I just had to try this new technique.  It was a bit tricky at first but by the time I finished, I felt like a pro.  There was a bit of a learning curve to keep the weaving tight evenly, but it got better as I worked with it.  She had made her woven ribbon into a wreath but I had a different idea and was thrilled it worked.

I used pink and white striped cardstock and ran it through my new “He Loves Me” Cuttlebug Embossing Plus folder.  So many of these folders that cut and emboss do not show all the details in the packaging.  This one is absolutely beautiful.  It also cuts the heart out in the center.  I layered this onto gold paper and trimmed out the heart to show a little gold border.

The floral heart stamp is a new stamp I bought from Impression Obsession (D6337 Ladybug Vine Heart).  I stamped and embossed it in gold and colored it, using red and gold Smooch (love that shimmer) and a green Tombow marker.  I glued the woven ribbon into a heart shape around the cut out window, and then used pop dots to layer it over the stamped image so it was centered in the heart window.  This is then layered on top of some darker striped paper that I actually bought a few years ago at Target in their $1 area.  I used gold Brilliance ink to stamp CC043 Cover-a-Card Roses background stamp, also from Impression Obsession, over the paper.  It creates a beautiful, subtle affect that shows up more, depending on the lighting.  I tried to angle the card in my picture so it would pick up the design.  This is all layered on a white card base.  I also added two gold decorative corners, cut using a die from the HCD 702 Decorative Butterfly-Border Die Set from Heartfelt Creations.

I really love the look of the woven ribbon on this card.  It gives the card sort of a vintage look.  It was a bit trickier to get it shaped like a heart but I was pleased with how it turned out.  I was going to add some white edging around the popped up area, using a Martha Stewart border punch, but I decided not to because I felt it took away from the simple elegance of the ribbon.  I did add a few little flowers to add just a little more color and to cover up where the two ends of the ribbon overlap.

I have entered this card in the following challenges:
