Winter White on White

We have a bit more snow this winter than we usually do.  My sister, who lives in Omaha, NE reminds me that I can’t complain because they are always much colder than us and have a lot more snow than us.  Then I remind her that we are not prepared to handle a lot of snow so when it snow here, we go nowhere!!  That is what happened for our Christmas party with my stamp club in North Carolina.  The weather just wasn’t safe to make the trip.  Seems so long ago, so no wonder I didn’t remember my fat pages swap.  We were supposed to bring these to the meeting.   The other day I was talking to my buddy that organizes this and she reminded me that no one had turned them in.  We had all forgotten.  Well, I decided to attack this so I could get them to her.  I ended up having a small surgical situation on Friday so finally dragged my body into the craft room tonight.  I managed to find about a square foot of clean space on my table and went to work.

It was a bit hard to get back to a winter scene when I really wanted to create a Valentine card or a Spring card.  Guess the Valentine theme kind of snuck in.  Our fat book pages are 6” x 6” so I started with a white base card that size.  I added a slightly smaller layer of white that I embossed with a lovely swirly background from a Cuttlebug embossing folder.  Then I added a smaller rectangle of white with a snowflake border across the top (Martha Stewart punch) and an embossed tree scene through the middle (Cuddlebug embossing folder).
The snowman image is a digital stamp from Bugaboo Stamps called Snowman Bells.  I colored the image with my Tombow markers, bringing out the image with a light gray shadowing around it.  He is such a cute little guy.  I cut him out with a Nellie Snellen die and then used pop dots to layer him onto a rectangle layer of white embossed with small hearts (Cuttlebug, again) and punched around the edges with a cute heart border using a corner/border punch set from Martha Stewart.  This was place on the right side leaving room on the left for a sweet sentiment cut out with a Spellbinder label die on top of a strip of braided white ribbon.
All of this combined to make a lovely white on white winter scene that could also be a Valentine card with the right message on the inside.  Then I decided to take this one more step that I am not sure I am totally sold on.  I kept picturing butterflies that you make from putting two hearts together (we do this a lot in my kindergarten class).  This is when you realize that even though you have tons of punches, you do not have the one you want.  Unbelievable!!  All my heart punches were either too big or too little for what I wanted.  I was getting ready to rev up the Cricut when I noticed that the lovely swirly embossed background had areas that could be butterflies.  I ended up cutting out two different sizes and adding 3 little butterflies in the top left corner.  Butterflies in winter?  Oh well, let me know what you think.  I added glitter to the wings, the trees, and all the little snowflakes in the sentiment and the image.  Not sure you can see everything clearly as I was forced to use the cell phone camera since my camera is still not working and my daughter took hers with her to an overnight party.  Oh well, it is a fun page for the end of January.  Now I need to quick call my sister because it is her birthday and I don’t want her to think I forgot!!  Happy Birthday, Karla.
