Expresso Yourself

Being a coffee drinker, I have really enjoyed using the new coffee themed sets from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  This card features the Espresso Yourself set with this great cup image.

The base work of the card is designer cardstock. stamped with the Journal Mixed Media circle using Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  This is layered on blue with the edges inked and then Sparkle EP added, using the Distressed Embossing Powder technique.  A musical border is added, using Memory Box’s Party Music die, cut from kraft cardstock, covered with Versamark Ink, and heat embossed it with Sparkle EP.  This is all added to the kraft card base.

I stamped the sentiment on light cream cardstock with Bahama Blue Memento Ink.  This was cut out with a Spellbinder’s circle die and stamped with the circle from the Journal Mixed Media set.  This was layered on a blue piece cut with Spellbinders’ Heart Circle and sponged with ink.  I used the Distressed Embossing Powder technique again to add Sparkle EP around the edges.

I wanted to give the cup a realistic look so I started with the cup holder.  I stamped this part of the image with Rich Cocoa Memento ink on Kraft cardstock.  I used a pencil to add some flaps that could wrap around the cup and cut this out.  I used this as a template for a second piece to use for the back side of the cup holder and then stamped the image over the top of it to give it some of the lines.  I cut this out and then scored down the lines on both pieces.  I folded them on each scored line to give some dimension and used the reverse side of the back piece.  After sponging them with Walnut Stain Distress Ink, they were taped together and this was added to the card front.

For the actual cup, I stamped it on some printer paper and cut it out to use as a template.  I created a piece that folded open at the top for the lid and also at the bottom to create a pocket.

Next I stamped the cup on designer paper for the cup and again on white for the lid.    I fussy cut these and sponged the cup piece with Broken China and Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  I adhered this to the pocket front.

For the lid, I sponged the entire piece with Antique Linen Distress Ink and covered it with Brushable Glue.  When it dried it had a shiny look like a plastic lid.  I edged it with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and layered it on the top flap.  The cup slips into the holder on the card front.

The point of the lid flap and pocket is to be able to insert a special surprise – like money for a cup of coffee!  I thought this would also be great for a gift card but the actual image is a bit too small for this.  However, it is available as a digital stamp that could be sized large enough for whatever surprise you want to give.

Ok, after all of this I think I might need some coffee!
