Fight The Good Fight

Our Daily Bread Designs Shining The Light Challenge (ODBDSLC68) this week is an inspiration challenge.  You are to create a card inspired by a WORD or the ENTIRE PHRASE "You're a grand old flag, you're a high flying flag."  Though there were so many ideas that came to mind, I could not resist using ODBD’s new stamp, Old Flag Background.

I decided to really challenge myself by making a distressed tag.  I do not make very many tags and I also do not do a lot of paper tearing or collaging so this took a little more work on my part.  I actually created the cream tag base by cutting just the top with a die by rolling it only part way through my Big Shot.  Then I trimmed the edges, lined it up with the bottom of the die, and barely running this into the machine.  I embossed some script on the tag, distressed the edges, and then added Tea Dye and Fired Brick Distress Inks.  I ran some dark blue cardstock through an embossing folder to add a star design, tore the edges, and added Tea Dye Distress Ink.  I layered it on the tag.

I stamped the Old Flag Background image with Versamark ink on cream cardstock and heat embossed it with sparkly bronze embossing powder.  I colored it with watercolors and then tore off the section I wanted to fit on the tag.  I scrunched it up, then layed it out and sponged and rubbed on distress ink, and added it to the tag.

The sentiment is from ODBD’s new Not Forgotten set.  I stamped and heat embossed it on cream cardstock, rounded the corners and distressed it, and sponged with distress ink.  I layered it on a blue tag that was embossed and also distressed.  I attached it with a combination of red and blue fibers.  I created a few distressed stars and added these.  I debated on adding some glitter but decided that the sparkle from the embossing powder was enough.
