Winter White on White

We have a bit more snow this winter than we usually do.  My sister, who lives in Omaha, NE reminds me that I can’t complain because they are always much colder than us and have a lot more snow than us.  Then I remind her that we are not prepared to handle a lot of snow so when it snow here, we go nowhere!!  That is what happened for our Christmas party with my stamp club in North Carolina.  The weather just wasn’t safe to make the trip.  Seems so long ago, so no wonder I didn’t remember my fat pages swap.  We were supposed to bring these to the meeting.   The other day I was talking to my buddy that organizes this and she reminded me that no one had turned them in.  We had all forgotten.  Well, I decided to attack this so I could get them to her.  I ended up having a small surgical situation on Friday so finally dragged my body into the craft room tonight.  I managed to find about a square foot of clean space on my table and went to work.

It was a bit hard to get back to a winter scene when I really wanted to create a Valentine card or a Spring card.  Guess the Valentine theme kind of snuck in.  Our fat book pages are 6” x 6” so I started with a white base card that size.  I added a slightly smaller layer of white that I embossed with a lovely swirly background from a Cuttlebug embossing folder.  Then I added a smaller rectangle of white with a snowflake border across the top (Martha Stewart punch) and an embossed tree scene through the middle (Cuddlebug embossing folder).
The snowman image is a digital stamp from Bugaboo Stamps called Snowman Bells.  I colored the image with my Tombow markers, bringing out the image with a light gray shadowing around it.  He is such a cute little guy.  I cut him out with a Nellie Snellen die and then used pop dots to layer him onto a rectangle layer of white embossed with small hearts (Cuttlebug, again) and punched around the edges with a cute heart border using a corner/border punch set from Martha Stewart.  This was place on the right side leaving room on the left for a sweet sentiment cut out with a Spellbinder label die on top of a strip of braided white ribbon.
All of this combined to make a lovely white on white winter scene that could also be a Valentine card with the right message on the inside.  Then I decided to take this one more step that I am not sure I am totally sold on.  I kept picturing butterflies that you make from putting two hearts together (we do this a lot in my kindergarten class).  This is when you realize that even though you have tons of punches, you do not have the one you want.  Unbelievable!!  All my heart punches were either too big or too little for what I wanted.  I was getting ready to rev up the Cricut when I noticed that the lovely swirly embossed background had areas that could be butterflies.  I ended up cutting out two different sizes and adding 3 little butterflies in the top left corner.  Butterflies in winter?  Oh well, let me know what you think.  I added glitter to the wings, the trees, and all the little snowflakes in the sentiment and the image.  Not sure you can see everything clearly as I was forced to use the cell phone camera since my camera is still not working and my daughter took hers with her to an overnight party.  Oh well, it is a fun page for the end of January.  Now I need to quick call my sister because it is her birthday and I don’t want her to think I forgot!!  Happy Birthday, Karla.

All Things Beautiful

This card is made for the sketch challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs Blog.  I started with a white card base and added a layer of dark maroon, then a layer of decorative cardstock.  I sponged distress ink around the edges.  The verse is from the new Faith set at ODBD.  I stamped it in red distress ink onto a white diecut from a Nellie Snellen die.  I wove some maroon ribbon around the edges, then layered it on a pink diecut, also from a Nellie Snellen die.  I sponged distress ink around the edges and added a small pearl to each petal.

The dark maroon border strip on the left side is cut from a third Nellie Snellen die.  I used distress ink to stamp a beautiful butterfly image, also from the Faith set, on the strip.  I added sheer pink ribbon and bow, then some flowers with a pearl center.

Stinkin' of You

The challenge this week at The Cuttlebug Spot is an inspiration challenge with the theme "Children's Games".  Well, I just wasn't inspired.  Maybe it was because I was feeling so lousy all week, or maybe I just was too determined to come up with something totally different.  Then today I was checking out my friend's blog, Stampwilly Designs (check out her awesome cards) and saw that she had posted a really cute card.  I gave it some more thought but decided not to stress over it.  I took a little nap and woke up with an inspiration.  Not sure if it was April or the nap, but I headed to my craft room.

This last summer I was visiting my parents and they were going through some of the stuff they had saved from our childhood (boy did they save stuff).  My mom handed me this ragged yellow game box and it brought back such memories.  It was our Skunk game.  We played this all the time when we were little.  My family has always loved to play games together and it was a great way to keep six children busy.  Well, I took this home with me to show my girls.  This is the game that came to my mind.  Well, of course, I did not have a skunk stamp (I knew I should have bought that cute little set from The Angel Company).  Then I remembered a cute digital skunk I had from Lost In Paper Scraps.  I quickly printed it and colored it with my tombow markers.  Then to put the card together.

The base card is bright yellow.  I rubbed black ink on one side of my cuttlebug folder and ran some white cardstock through.  It is really dominos but looked like it could be dice.  Then I created my own dice by cutting out white and red squares from square nesties.  Then I used my hole punch to punch out a bunch of dots from chipboard.  I stuck these to the back of my white squares and ran them through my cuttlebug to emboss the dots onto my "dice", three on one and five on the other.  It worked great, so I just ran some black ink over the top.  I layered the white dice onto the red squares, then added some black with white polkadots ribbon, kind of like they do with dice that hang from the rearview mirror in a car.  I cut out my cute little skunk and place him on the front.  I added some yellow silk flowers with red button middles.  Now for the saying - I typed my own.   Might be a good idea for someone to make a stamp like this.  Hope you like my inspiration.

Share The Love

I had hoped to post another card today, but came down with whatever my daughter had earlier this week.  I came home from work yesterday and feel right to sleep.  I have felt lousy all day and spent most of the time sleeping.  Guess it just isn't my week.  Hopefully I will be able to get in that craft room tomorrow.  I'll just share about a great "Giveaway" at Dawn's Craft Place.  She is celebrating her son's wedding by sharing the love.

Check out the details here.

Wing It

I have had this beautiful pink and brown butterfly cardstock for some time and really wanted to use it.  It was perfect for this card.  The card base is light pink, embossed with a Cuttlebug Embossing folder.  I cut out small squares from my butterfly cardstock and layered them on darker pink scalloped squares.

Then I stamped the butterfly image from Our Daily Bread Designs new Faith set with light pink Colorbox Chalk ink on glossy cardstock.  Then I brayered darker pink Colobox Chalk ink over the top to bring out the image.  This is cut out with a Spellbinder label and layered on a larger light pink Spellbinder and attached with pop dots.  I sponged some dark brown ink around all the edges of all the dies and the base card.  I added the sentiment, stamped in dark brown on light pink, with another Spellbinder die.  I added some light pink chrystal butterflies (sorry my color is so off), and a white bow.  I didn't have any dark brown little pearls or chrystals so I rubbed dark brown Stazon onto light pink pearls and added them to the two open corners.  I love the look of brown and pink together and the butterfly carstock worked perfect with this new ODBD stamp.

Happy Anniversary

This has been quite a week.  I fell real hard on my knee at work earlier and it has really hurt.  Laid me up for a bit but feels better today.  I had to get xrays today and nothing is broken.  Thank goodness.  I had to find something to do for a while after work, since I needed to stay on that end of town to pick up my daughter.  Since my knee wasn't hurting too bad I decided I could take a peek at Hobby Lobby.  Now, those of you that really know me understand my love for a great bargain.  In fact, I have been labeled the "Enabler" by those closest to me (I think my friends should look in the mirror).  When I find a great deal, I call them all up to see if they want me to spend their money, too.  Well, today I only enabled myself.  I was browsing in the stamping/scrapbooking area when I spotted a clearance tag on a Cuttlebug.  I already own a Big Shot, which I absolutely love.  However, it is a bit bulky to drag around.  I have been thinking that it would be nice to have a Cuttlebug to haul around in my trunk for when I go elsewhere to play, but I just couldn't justify spending the money when I already had the Big Shot and a Cricut Expression.  Well, this little guy was screaming my name.  It had a note on it that it had been returned by a customer who said it didn't work.  They claimed it did work but had been used so it was marked down.  I checked it out and it had probably only been used to cut 2 dies.  Everything was in the box and it was like new.  I loaded it in my cart and paid a whole $20 dollars for it.  Guess what - It works great.  Yeah!!!!  Then I went home and iced my knee with a big smile on my face.  Ok, enough gloating - on with my latest creation.

I decided to start on my cards for our stamp club card swap with an Anniversary theme.  This card has a 5" x 7" cream base.  I sponged a little Tea Dye Distress Ink around the edges.

Then I created a border on the left side by scoring and folding some hydrangea decorative paper.  I added a heart trim on each side, using a Martha Stewart border punch.  The heart in the center is made using Nestabilities from Spellbinders.  I layered a cream heart onto a white scalloped heart. I used pop dots to layer this onto a larger cream heart, ending with a larger white scalloped heart.  I sponged a little of the Tea Dye ink around the edges of each cream heart.

I stamped a hydrangea flower with the same Tea Dye ink on the top cream heart.  This stamp is from the Plant a Little Love Set from JustRite Stamps.  I glued small silk flowers on top of the floral part of the image.  I stamped the image a second time and cut out the leaves.  I molded them and rolled the edges slightly, then used pop dots to place them on top of the first image to give them a 3-D affect.

The sentiment and borders are from JustRite's Baroque Nested Frames & Occasions.  I just bought this set at my fun weekend two weeks ago at Scrapbook Creations and love it.  It comes with 3 double layered, decorative, rectangular borders and 3 very useful sayings.  I stamped the sentiment with lilac ink on white, then layered it on more of the hydrangea paper.  This is layered onto cream, stamped with the smaller rectangular border in the Tea Dye ink.  This is also layered on top of the hydrangea paper and then onto white cardstock, stamped with the larger border in lilac ink.

I used a sketch from the Fussy and Fancy Challenge. I decided to have a little fun with this sketch by reversing the shapes on the sketch, yet keeping with the sketch layout.  Where it shows a square shape, I placed the heart shapes, and then put my rectangular sentiment whereit shows a heart shape.  See the sketch below.

Happy B-Day

Just a quick post tonight.  This is a cute little birthday card using an adorable digital stamp from Bugaboo Stamps  called Dottie Cupcake.  They are celebrating their 1st birthday and all their digitals are on sale.   I colored the image with Tombow markers, then layered it on dark maroon cardstock.  I used Fiskar punches and Martha Stewart punches for the bows, gifts, and cupcakes.  The background is pink polka dot cardstock, embossed with a Cuttlebug Folder, and Colorbox Chalk Ink rubbed over the embossing.

In each corner of the image are two little cupcakes and buttons for the candles and cherries.  The sentiment is a Studio G stamp.

My Favorite Things

I was working on a card for my stamp club swap when I was challenged to produce a card showing my favorite things.  I thought about all of the things I love to use and then I looked back at a lot of my latest cards to see what I was using.  I have so many things I love but there are certain things I "really" love.  In fact, they are used on almost all of my cards.  Then I looked at the card I was working on and realized they were on this card, too.  So here are some of my favorite things:

Embossing Folders - I think I own most of them that are out there.  Sometimes I can hardly decide which one to use because I have so many wonderful ones.  Sometimes I desperately want to use a certain one and then realize it doesn't really work with my card and have to take a tour of all the others to make a new choice.

Die Cuts - Ok, I resisted these at first, then after getting a Cricut, felt guilty buying these if I thought I could do the same thing on my Cricut.  However, my Cricut does not travel with me (I already haul too much stuff around) and my Spellbinders, Cuttlebug, and Nellie Snellen dies do.  I have slowly added to my stack and now am desperately trying to find the right way to store these that meets my needs and storage area.  On this card I used a Cuttlebug embossing/cut folder that does it all.

Martha Stewart Punches - If you have read very many of my posts, you already know this.  She has got to stop coming out with new ones.  I can't stop buying them.  She has 3 new ones coming out and I already ordered these.  Are there any groups out there call Martha Stewart Anonymous?  On this card I used one of her new Valentine punches.  I knew I had to have it the minute I saw it.  Apparently others felt the same way because everyone was trying to take it from me last weekend when we had our fun time at Scrapbook Creations.

Bling - I love to add a little something extra by using pearls, jewels, or glitter.  On this one I used red Stickles to bring out the heart shape in the middle of my punched shape.  Love it!!

Ok, these are just a few of my favorite things.  I will save the rest for another time or we might be here all day.

Monochromatic Happy Birthday

I love these new stamp sets.  I think this is one of my favorite things I received recently.  There is just something about them that really appeals to me.  The sets are Butterfly Corner and Happy Birthday from Our Daily Bread.  I have a third set that I won so check back to see cards with this set, too.  Ok, let's get to some details on this card.  This was one of those that I had several things I wanted to do on this card and ended up doing something else.  I will save those ideas for a card in the future - I think I am staying up too late because I have a hard time focusing on what I am suppose to.

I stamped the Butterfly Corner in red distress ink on cream cardstock and cut it out with an oval nestie.  After running a little ink around the edge, I layered it onto deep red cardstock cut out with another Nestie.  I enjoyed making the next layer.  It is decorative paper that I ran through a Cuttlebug embossing folder and ran the same red distress ink over the top.  I actually ran the paper through decorative side down so the main design actually is the part that is not inked - hope that makes sense.  This is all layered onto a deeper peachy pink cardstock that I picked up on clearance at a great store called XPedx.  I try to run by there at least once a month to check out their clearance.  I have found some really good deals on cardstock and envelopes there.  Probably should drop by there again since they usually do some inventory reduction around now (see what I mean about not focusing).  Back to the card - I stamped the butterfly in the red distress ink onto the left over decorative paper and cut it out.  It really added to the card using more of this paper.

The "Happy Birthday" was stamped in the red onto the same peachy pink cardstock, layered onto cream, and then layered onto the deep red cut out with a Nellie Snellen die.  A lot of times I have a hard time finding the right die in the right size for my sentiments.  I only have tons of dies and punches, but still don't have what I want.  Sound familiar?  With a little practice I have been able to do some cutting adjustments that can make certain dies work for what I need.  This rectangular die was the right length for my sentiment but not the right width.  I calculated where the middle of the right width would be, cut my cardstock and folded it in half and placed the fold at that point in the die.  I run the die through my Big Shot, back and forth several times to make sure it cuts through both layers.  When I remove it and open it up it is cut to the right size.  Ok, I am not sure that makes sense without seeing it.  I will try to do pics and show you in the near future.  I added some rose colored round brads to the sentiment and paper flowers to the two corners.  I used some new pearls I bought in the center of each flower, giving it a bit of a glamorous bling.  Oh, I left out a part.  My sketch showed a strip right down the center.  I wove some very thin cream ribbon for this but realized that you would not see it very well, so I settled for a strip punched with a Martha Stewart punch.  I am sorry that it is kind of buried because it is really pretty and looks a lot like lace.   I will use it again so you get to see it better.

New Site and Blog Candy

Blog Candy #1

Blog Candy #2

Ok, you only have until Friday to do this, but check out karens-kakes-krafts.  She is giving away some awesome blog candy.  She also makes some amazing cakes.  The blog candy is for reaching 100 followers, which she has already achieved.  However, we are seeing how many more she can get before she closes this on Friday.  Run to her site, become a follower, and leave a comment!!  She might also need some sunshine since she is now buried in snow.  Sorry, Karen, after it visited us we just had to send it your way.  We have been out of school all week.  Getting a bit stir crazy.  Back to my craft room.

New Beginnings

I am so excited about this card because it gave me a chance to use a new image that I fell in love with the minute I saw it.  I am really attracted to images with butterflies or flowers, so when I saw this stamp with both, I had to have it.  I wanted to use it in a more glamorous card and decided to use a card technique I had found when I first started my blog.  The image is a newly introduced set called Butterfly Corner by Our Daily Bread Designs.  I stamped it on cream cardstock in rasberry ink, then cut out a portion of the image with a Spellbinder Nestability.  It is layered on a dark green scalloped oval nestie.  I stamped the image a 2nd time and cut out the butterfly, colored it with chalk, and popped it on top of the image on the card.  The background paper on the card is from K&Company.  I have actually had this pad of two-sided cardstock for quite awhile and was just waiting for the right card.  This was it!

The saying is also from Our Daily Bread from their Happy Birthday set.  I stamped this in dark green on cream and layered it on a pink lable from Cuttlebug.  I chose this saying because I thought this card would be perfect for someone's wedding, which is a great "new beginning" in someone's life.

On Vacation, Sort of

Wow has this been a fun few days - starting with this weekend.  A friend of mine won a scrapping weekend at a scrapbook store.  It started on Friday morning, but I had to work, so I arrived right after supper.  We had a huge area we could set up in and could just leave our stuff at our table overnight.  We worked on our projects until midnight, then we retired to a cute house next door for the night.  We spent the whole weekend there, just working on projects, shopping, eating and threw in just a little bit of sleep.  Here is a picture of the ladies that hung in there until the end on Sunday.

We had so much fun and learned to know each other better.  We even shared projects by doing shoebox projects on Saturday afternoon.

This is my project.  The image is Floral Abstract #11 from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  I stamped it with Brilliance ink onto the white square.  This was layered on top of black, cut out with a Nellie Snellen die, then on top of a polka dot cardstock.  I punched decorative borders for the top and bottom edges of the cardstock using a MS border punch, then layered it all on a white card base.  I added a black butterfly, cut out with die HCD 702 Decorative Butterfly-Border Die Set from Heartfelt Creations.  I brushed some of the brilliance ink on the edges of the butterfly wings to give it a little glimmer.

This was a fun, simple card that could be used for many different occasions.  I entered it in the following challenges:

We came home on Sunday night and by midnight started to get snow.  We had over 8” by my house, then a nice coating of ice.  This is an awful lot of snow for our area and we are not equipped to clear the roads like some other places.  School was cancelled on Monday and Tuesday, and now again for Wednesday.  It is still so cold that nothing is melting and we are not going anywhere.  My daughter has a ferret for a pet and when she went out to take some pictures yesterday, Sheila decided to follow her and play in the snow.  Here is a video of Sheila’s reaction to the snow – not sure if she liked it or not.  I don’t think she was sure either.

I am busy cleaning up my trashed craft room and getting started on some new projects.  Show them to you soon!!
