Elegant Egg

I recently received these awesome stamps from Sweet Stamps.  They are so pretty and delicate and great for vellum or regular cardstock.  I took them with me on Friday when I visited Bonnie and she made some beautiful cards.  She informed me today that they should be showing up in the next few days on her blog here.  I wanted to use them for a very feminine card that could be Easter or Mother’s day.  I didn’t have anything except frames or flowers or a bird.  What could I do to make an Easter theme that wasn’t just spring?  Then it came to me – a beautifully decorated egg.  I decided that the Bird on Flowering Branch image would be perfect.

I started out stamping the image several times close together in permanent black ink and colored with Tomobow markers.  I had a solid egg shaped stamp so I used it with clear ink and stamped right over the image and then embossed it in clear.  This gave me a perfect shape to cut out.  I continued to sponge on clear ink and adding another layer of embossing powder until it had a porcelain look and I could crack the surface.  Then I rubbed antique linen ink over the top and buffed it off so it had a more antique look to it.  I added some gold scrolled pieces, cut out with Spellbinder dies, to make it look like it was on a stand.

For the actual card I started with dark green cardstock and added a layer of light pink.  I took a slightly small layer of light green and cut out the middle with a Spellbinder label die.  I sponged green ink around all the edges and then, using the same image as my egg, used versamark ink and stamped all around the edges.  This created a great light background.  I took my “egg” and popped it up in the middle with foam tape.  I added gold scrolled pieces on each corner and lots of pearls to make it more elegant.  I was really please how this turned out and hope you like it, too.
