Father's Day Accordion Strip Card

Monday we had our local stamp club meeting and one of the members shared how to make a special type of accordion card.  Since it uses a strip on the front for the accordion fold, I will refer to it as an Accordion Strip Card.  I decided to make one for Father’s Day, using Sparkle N Sprinkle’s new Fishin’ With Dad set, again.

First you create your card base, adding layers of cardstock and/or decorative papers.  For this card I used a 4 1/4” x 11” cream cardstock and folded it in half to create a 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” card base.  I added a 4 1/8” x 5 3/8” dark brown layer and two 4” x 3” pieces of designer paper.  I punched one edge of a 1 1/2” x 4” strip of brown paper and layered it across where the pieces overlapped (I actually didn't have a piece long enough so used to smaller pieces, since this would be covered up).  The teal paper is from Basic Grey’s Shine On collection and the light brown and the striped paper are from their Fiction collection.

For the accordion strip, cut a strip 3” x 12”.  You can make it wider if you choose.  Score the strip at 3”, 4 1/2”, 6”, 7 1/2”, and 9”.  Fold together and trim or punch the corners and then punch a hole for the ribbon.

Add layers, images, and sentiments to each section as desired.  I added 2 7/8” x 2 1/2” pieces of dark brown and 2 3/4” x 2 3/8” pieces of light brown to the top and bottom inside sections and the bottom outside section (A).  I stamped my images on 2 5/8” x 2 1/4” pieces of cream cardstock.   I added 2 7/8” x 1 3/8” pieces of light brown to the four middles sections and then added 2 3/4” x 1 1/4” pieces of striped to the 2nd and 4th sections (B) and dark brown to the 3rd and 5th section (C).  I stamped the sentiment and fish on 2 5/8” x 1 1/8” pieces of teal paper and added these to the 3rd and 5th sections.

Fold up the accordion strip and add ribbon (approx. 18”).  Run one end through the punched holes, around the back, and back to the front to tie in a bow.  Adhere to the card front.

You can also adhere the ribbon to the back of the folded accordion and pull each end through a hole and tie together.

Here is the completed card open.  I did add some glitter to parts of images, using a glue pen.  I also used it to add a glittery “fishing line” and “fish hook” to the card front, along with a quilled “bobber”

Here is one more little tip for you.  I didn’t have any Baker’s Twine to match my card so I decided to make my own.

I had some plain white twine so I wrapped this around a marker.

Then I used my alcohol markers to add strips of color.

When you unwind it looks like this.  If your markers are juicy they will soak through the fiber.  My fiber was a littler thicker so after I unwound it.  I added a little more color by pressing my markers onto the un-inked side.

Hope you enjoy this fun card and thanks to Angela for teaching me how to make this!!
